We all love wooden toys but are they really environmentally friendly – Rubber wood

At the Toadstool we are passionate about quality, wooden toys but equally important to us is that our toys are also ecologically friendly. You know we choose our brands carefully and that’s one of the reasons we are delighted to be offering you the Wonderworld Toys range which are made from Thai grown rubber wood.

So why is rubber wood an ecologically good choice?

ImageRubber wood is a hard wood derived from the Para Rubber Tree (Hevea Brasiliensis) and is known as Plantation Hardwood. The rubber plantations are located in Southeast Asia, mostly in Malaysia and Thailand which makes it a natural and ecological choice for Wonderworld (a Thai based company) and the local economy.

Until recently the rubber trees were only used to produce latex and once they stopped producing that, they were burnt as waste.  However, at Wonderworld they recognized the potential of using rubber wood after the trees have stopped producing latex, thereby recycling the waste and avoiding unnecessary destruction.

What’s more Wonderworld have set up their own Tree Plus Program where for every tree they use in production, they plant two more.

And rubber wood is particularly good for making toys.

The rubber wood has a dense grain that is easily controlled in the kiln drying process. It has very little shrinkage making it one of the more stable construction materials available for furniture, toys and kitchen accessories although it’s not suitable for outdoor storage. Wonderworld combine these properties with natural water based paints and even uses rubber pigment extracted from the leaves to produce a safe and ecologically friendly result.

The icing on the cake.

The Wonderworld toys are both beautifully designed and well made wooden toys which offer fun and learning through play and are innovative in teaching children to be aware and careful about our environment.

But Wonderworld are also committed to the highest standard of safety & quality for all of their products and their packaging.  Their products meet the highest levels of safety and quality for both the United States (ASTM-F963 and CPSC) and the European (EN-71) standards.

And we think you’re going to love them.

So if you’re looking for a toy that is both fun and educational whilst still being as pleasing to the eye and as ecologically sound as possible, there is no better place to start than the Wonderworld range. Have a look at some of their products on our website  www.thetoadstool.co.uk  and why not let us know if you and your children love them as much as we do.
